Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The coach of the Indonesian National Team (Timnas), Shin Tae-yong, acknowledged the strength of the Iraqi National Team after his national team was slaughtered with a final score of 1-5 in the first round of the second round of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in the Asian zone, Thursday (16/11/2023).
“They played well in this match. I can say, we will try to perform better at our home ground,” said Shin Tae-yong, quoted from the official PSSI website, Friday (17/11/2023).
“I can only say Iraq played better than us,” stressed Shin.
According to the 53 year old coach, one of the main factors in Indonesia’s defeat at the hands of Iraq was the lack of direct support from national team supporters and the long journey from Indonesia to Basra, Iraq.
“As you can see, this is an away match with few supporters for us at the stadium. Then, we also have to go through a long journey with the players not coming together,” said Shin.
“But apart from that, Iraq did play better than us,” he continued.
